2019 Chemistry Olympiad

The Central Arizona Local Section is once again participating in the Chemistry Olympiad. Students qualify for the National Exam by taking a local section exam consisting of 60 multiple choice questions. This year 12 schools participated and 250 students took the local section exam. The membership size of the local section determines the number of students that can be nominated to sit for the national exam. The ACS national office has set our section’s limit to 10 students. Our nominees will take the national exam on April 27th on the downtown campus of ASU. It is an all-day exam consisting of three parts: a 90-minute multiple choice test; a 105-minute written, free-response assessment; and a 90-minute laboratory practical. Twenty national finalists will be invited to participate in a study camp to determine the team representing the US at the International Chemistry Olympiad in Paris, France July 21-30. Wish our local section students the best of luck on the National Exam!

More information on the Chemistry Olympiad can be found on the ACS website (https://www.acs.org/content/acs/en/education/students/highschool/olympiad.html).
