We celebrated National Chemistry Week at the Arizona Museum of Natural History. With help from our local section members and chemistry students from Arizona State University, we showcased how “Chemistry is out of this World!” It was a jam-packed day of hands-on activities, guest lectures, and all around fun with chemistry!
Dr. Young from the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University gave a talk about the “Birth of the Elements” and how different elements are formed from stars. Volunteers engaged with families with hands-on activities from the National Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net) “Let’s Do Chemistry” kit, which was awarded to the Central Arizona local section. We also handed out free issues of Celebrating Chemistry for kids to continue their experiments and research at home.
Our guests and volunteers had so much fun at this event! Thanks again to the NISE Net for providing the materials and training for these outstanding activities, and to the Arizona Museum of Natural History for embracing chemistry and letting us take over the museum for the day. Thank you, TJ Gaudelli, for taking these photos.
We look forward to hosting another event soon!
